E4 Experimental Area

The E4 experimental area receives 2 x 100 TW laser beams, ultra-short pulses, 60 mm full aperture diameter.

It accommodates a modular vacuum system with 2 chambers (HV + UHV) with CF flanges and differential pumping, 5 turning boxes, 1 extension for loose focus experiments, electron beamdump for LWFA experiments.

The vacuum chamber system is enclosed in a Soft-wall cleanroom (ISO 7 performance) of 60 m2, and it is operated and monitored from an Integrated control system over internal secured Ethernet network and high-speed fiber-optics connection with Users Room. 3 optical tables with a total footprint over 7 m2 are available.

Short, intermediate and long focus experiments with one or two 100 TW laser beams
Experiments with focusing in vacuum or on gas targets
“Loose focus” or collimated beam experiments with 100 TW laser beams
R&D in ultra-high vacuum techniques

Equipment

Vacuum system comprising of 2 main interaction chambers, 5 turning boxes with a total volume of 10 m3
One of the main chambers is designed for ultra-high vacuum, with bakeout system, differential pumping and CF flanges
Integrated control and monitoring system with safety interlocks, managing 7 separable volumes, 10 high-capacity turbo pumps, one cryopump
Nd:YAG laser 2.5 J / pulse (to be delivered May 2021)
Optics and mechanics for steering and synchronizing the beams
Spectrometers and photon detection devices
Ethernet gateway and switches, trigger electronics, computers for DAQ
