In the implementation phase of ELI-NP, the post-doctoral research assistant will participate in the implementation of the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) Technical Design Report (TDR) 4: "Charged Particle Detection at ELI-NP", Rom. Rep. Phys. 68 (2016) S699, and in the preparation of the ELISSA experimental program at ELI-NP
Your main role will be to support and develop the experimental program on nuclear astrophysics using the ELISSA silicon strip detector array at ELI-NP, and be actively involved in the Group's planned nuclear astrophysics experiments at the HIgS facility in USA and at IFIN Tandem Laboratory in Romania.
Main Responsabilities:
Participating to the detector and equipment tests and the implementation of the ELISSA silicon strip detector array
Preparing and participating in preparatory experiments for the ELI-NP research program in nuclear astrophysics
Main Tasks:
Building and commissioning the equipment for the implementation of the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) TDR 4 within ELI-NP Gamma Driven Experiments Department (GDED)
Testing, tuning and debugging electronics for silicon strip detectors, participating in the implementation and testing of the data acquisition system and the data-filtering algorithms needed for the ELISSA array
Providing support in the installation and commissioning of various systems and equipment for the ELISSA array and their further use
Participating in the maintenance the performances of the ELISSA equipment and systems to the desired level
Actively participating in the different activities performed at ELI-NP
Proposing, preparing and performing experiments related to the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) TDR4 research program
Participating in the analysis, presentation and publication of the results of the experiments
Professional background:
PhD degree in Physics
Publication record in nuclear reactions or nuclear astrophysics physics
Practical experience in nuclear measurements with silicon strip detectors and instrumentation
Expertise in analogue and digital electronics, analogue and digital signal processing
Excellent programming skills in C/C++
Windows and Linux proficiency
Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Goal-oriented attitude
Willingness to continuously improve and develop new skills
Proven teamwork experience, communication and efficient collaboration skills
Availability to travel and perform work stages abroad
Would be a plus, but at least one required:
Monte Carlo simulations: GEANT4
Data analysis: ROOT
Working arrangements/Conditions of employment:
Full time position, based in Bucharest - Magurele, Romania, for a period 1 (one) year with the possibility of extension. .
