Dr. Călin Alexandru Ur is an established Senior Researcher in experimental nuclear physics, author of more than 380 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and member of several international scientific committees and editorial boards. Before joining ELI-NP first as Head of the High Brilliance Gamma Beam Research Activity, Dr. Ur was Head of the GAMMA Experiment at the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics in Padova and Scientific Coordinator of the Tandem-ALPI-PIAVE Accelerator Complex at the Legnaro National Laboratories (Italy). Since 2015 he is Director of the PhD School on Engineering and Applications of Lasers and Accelerators at Politehnica University Bucharest.

Prof. Dr. Victor MALKA

Professor Victor Malka is a world-renowned scientist in the field of plasma physics, winner several research grants including ERC and EIC Advanced grants, and laureate of many international prizes. He has published more than 400 articles and has been invited in more than 200 international conferences. He worked on different topics such as atomic physics, inertial fusion, and laser plasma interaction.

His research activity is now mainly devoted on relativistic interaction, laser plasma accelerators, and their related societal applications in which he made several breakthrough contributions. Class exceptional Research Director detached from the CNRS, he is Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Dr. Constantin Ivan is one of the participants in the ELI-NP project since the preparatory phase. He is the author of the pre-feasibility study of the ELI-NP project which is registered at the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA). He was responsible for carrying out the preparatory studies (geological, geophysical, radiological, electromagnetic pulse protection ), the feasibility study and the technical project for the constructions of the ELI-NP project.

He was the connection with the romanian state authorities with attributions in issuing the necessary authorizations for the construction and operation of the ELI-NP research infrastructure.

Dr. Ionel ANDREI

Quality and Oversight Director [ office.dircceli-np.ro ]

Ionel Andrei is Quality Control and Oversight Director at ELI-NP since 2017. He holds an MSc from Politehnica University of Bucharest and a PhD from University of Bucharest. From 2004 to 2013 and from 2016 to 2017 he served as Director General for R&D Programmes and then RDI Strategy Coordination at the Ministry of Research and Innovation, Romania. Since 2013 he is a member of the Romanian Delegation to the ESA Industrial Policy Committee (IPC) and from 2017 to 2020 he has been the Vice Chair of IPC. Ionel ANDREI was ESFRI and ERAC representative and a member of the ESFRI Executive Board from 2009 to 2013. He served as evaluator and observer of EC calls under EC's RDI FPs. He has participated in numerous European and regional working groups and conferences on research infrastructures. He holds the excellence diploma of ANCS (National Authority for Scientific Research) and the National Order "For Merit".

Since October 2002 Alexandru Popescu is the Economic Director of the "Horia Hulubei" National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH), Bucharest, Magurele, the largest national research institute in Romania, by all means (scientific productivity, number of personnel, infrastructure). He is the main responsible for the entire financial management at the institute.

In 2012 he took over the Economic Director position at Extreme Light Infrastructure Nuclear Physics Centre, contributing to the implementation of the project and also to the establishment of the future European Research Center, ELI-NP.
The ELI-NP Centre has an implementation budget of 310 million euros out of each 85% are representing European funds and 15% are provided by the national budget.
