X-Ray Imaging Laboratory

The X-ray imaging laboratory is located in the E3 room of the experimental building, which is ideal for this kind of laboratory because of the lack of vibration, control of humidity and temperature, and radioprotection infrastructure. The main asset of this laboratory is a large radioprotection chamber (8600 mm x 6000 mm x 2200 mm) designed and equipped for high-sensitivity X-ray phase-contrast imaging experiments. The work of the team from this laboratory is dedicated to the development of X-ray diagnostics for laser-target interaction, biomedical X-ray imaging applications, industrial applications, fundamental science, and experiments for X-ray optics.

Main Activities

Laboratory studies for maximum performance in Phase Contrast X-ray Imaging (PXI) for mammography (25-50 keV) and chest radiography (>100 keV) with X-ray sources produced by lasers;
Dosimetry studies;
Dark-field imaging for visualization of phase effects in scattering conditions;
PXI studies in dual-energy and dual-angle;
PXI studies for hadrontherapy;
PXI studies for NDT (nondestructive testing) in additive manufacturing (3D printing);
Diagnostic development for characterization of X-ray sources produced by ELI-NP lasers (spatial coherence, spectrum, fluence);
PXI development for plasma diagnostic - Talbot-Lau interferometer for betatron backlighter;
Production of helical X-rays with phase plates;
Diagnostic development for helical phase X-rays;
Study of the interaction of helical X-rays with matter;

Equipment

Two long optical tables (2x3000 mm);
High power dual spot (1 mm and 0.4 mm) X-ray source (Titan ISOVOLT 160 MM2/HP);
