Chemist/Chemical Engineer

Technical Division

    Scope of work:
  • The chemist/chemical engineer will work in the Technical Division, in the Target Laboratory, and will collaborate with the technical and experimental teams within the laboratory and within ELI-NP for implementing the experimental programmes, operating and maintaining the experimental systems in his/her charge
  • The chemist/chemical engineer will use his/her competences for using and administrating the chemistry tools and equipment used in the laboratory; provides support in the field of chemistry for making the materials in the target laboratory; oversees the chemistry and chemical analysis equipment and will assist researchers in producing and developing targets; operates and monitors the chemistry equipment used in the support activity for manufacturing targets using chemical methods; is accountable for maintaining the special equipment used in target manufacturing using chemical methods
  • Main Responsabilities:
    Main Tasks:
      In the Technical Division of the ELI-NP research infrastructure the chemist/chemical engineer will have the following duties:
    • will provide support for the scientific and engineering activities in the ELI-NP Target Laboratory intended for preparing and developing the activities specific to target production
    • will acquire the skills for using the devices and substances in the chemistry laboratory (part of the Target Laboratory), and will assimilate the work protection norms
    • will develop or take part in developing the chemical methods necessary to produce target materials
    • will take the necessary measures for the safe use and storage, according to the norms and laws in force, of the materials and substances used in the laboratory
    • will ensure the materials and substances needed for solid target research and manufacturing intended for high power laser and gamma beam experiments
    • will take part in devising the procedures, instructions and technical reports for the Target Laboratory equipment
    • will assist researchers in fulfilling responsibilities, in keeping with the tasks and duties within the Target Laboratory;
    • will attend specific training courses
    • will establish the needs for products, materials and devices necessary to carry out the laboratory activities under the best conditions and will keep the inventory of purchased materials and substances, with their related documents and with their related safety datasheets
    Professional background:
    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry/chemical engineering
    • Experience in the job speciality
    • Good knowledge of the technologies relevant to the specificity of the laboratory
    • Basic knowledge of computer operation and text editors
    • Capacity to train other users in using the equipment in his/her charge
    • Ability to take part in research activities, ability to use chemistry research equipment
    • Highly-developed technical skills, disciplined, positive result-oriented, keen observer, punctual, responsible, fair, balanced, self-controlled, accurate information communicator
    • Fluent in English
    Working arrangements/Conditions of employment:
    • Full time position, based in Bucharest - Magurele, Romania .

    • The candidate should be available to travel abroad for scientific collaboration at various research infrastructures, for part of their time.
