ISAB

International Scientific Advisory Board

The International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) is a group of international experts which evaluates and monitors the ELI-NP project and offers counseling regarding the organization and promotion of research in specific fields.
The ISAB provides to the Management Board objective independent advice on the development of the project, scientific strategy and translational activities. Professor Gérard Mourou, Nobel Prize Winner in Physics (2018), is an acting member of the ELI-NP ISAB and an active collaborator of the ELI-NP research team for the preparation of the Day 1 experiments.
ELI-NP hosted the first ISAB meeting in Romania on 4 and 5 December 2017.

ELI-NP

9 September 2020

A letter to the Minister of Education and Research and Secretary of State for Research should be written with cc to IFIN-DG and ELI-NP Project Leader, expressing the ISAB’s great satisfaction with the outstanding achievements of ELI-NP, congratulating the Minister, Secretary and ELI-NP staff with these achievements and appealing for strong support of ELI-NP. The letter will also be sent to ISTAC Chair and ELI-DC DG for information and further allow all members of ISAB to use this letter at their national level and in the EU community to ensure full and correct understanding of ELI-NP’s progress.

ELI-NP should organise with the help of ISAB a public scientific event by Zoom to present the scientific and technical achievements of the ELI-NP project, and in particular the HPLS and its upcoming experimental plan for the user community worldwide. High-ranking 10 politicians, mass media and scientists (incl. Donna Strikland) should be invited. This recommendation should be included in the letter to the Minister and Secretary.

A small subcommittee should be set-up to contact the new IFIN-HH DG and seek his support for ELI-NP.

ISAB stresses the importance of maintaining the financial support for ELI-NP scientific and engineering staff as well as the maintenance and commissioning contract signed with Thales Company. This contract is essential to guarantee the smooth transition of highpower laser operation from Thales to ELI-NP staff.

An expert team, as described above, should be formed to help ELI-NP staff oversee the construction of the VEGA system by Lyncean Technologies, Inc.
