Junior Physicist - Biophysics group

Laser Gamma Experiments Department


    Scope of work:
  • The junior physicist will provide technical support and develop new applications in the framework of the scientific research in the biophysics and biomedical field at ELI-NP and assist with the implementation of the experimental setup and the preparatory work in the ELI-NP laboratories
  • In the operational phase, the physicist will participate to the operation of research equipment in the Biophysics and Biomedical Applications Group and Laboratory and the implementation of the scientific strategy of ELI-NP
  • Main Responsabilities:
  • Participating in the development of new biological applications of the ELI-NP photonic beams
  • Installation of instrumentation and preparation of experiments
  • Cell cultures;
  • Implementation of the experimental arrangements in the field of biophysics at ELI-NP (Laser-TDR4) and the program of the biophysics group (Asavei et al., Rom. Rep. Phys. 2016, Asavei et al., Med Phys 2019)
  • Spectroscopic characterization of the biomolecular effects of radiation
  • Development of areas dedicated to experiments and laboratories for biological applications within ELI-NP
  • Main Tasks:
    • Specific tasks for the development of ELI-NP within LGED: -helps to implement experimental setups in the Biophysics and Biomedical Applications Group and Laboratory; -cell cultures and characterization of radiation effects; -installation and adjustment of instrumentation
    • Calculations for estimating the biochemical effects of radiation; support for scientific research activities
    • Fulfilling specific tasks in a working group led by a senior researcher, assistance with administrative tasks
    • Molecular characterization of radiation by NMR and EPR
    • Participation in scientific meetings and conferences
    • Writing reports on the activities in which he/she is involved
    • Assistance in the development of the Biophysics and Biomedical Applications laboratory for ELI-NP and a framework for ELI-NP users to study the biological effects of radiation
    Professional background:
    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry
    • Familiar with the spectroscopic applications pertaining to ELI-NP research relevant for biological studies;
    • Fluency in English;
    • Demonstrated experience of teamwork and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
    • Availability to travel and perform work and training stages abroad
    • Would be a plus: ?Experience with programming; ?Experience with Mathemathica, Matlab, C++, Linux and Windows networking
    Working arrangements/Conditions of employment:
    • Full time position, based in Bucharest - Magurele, Romania .

    • The candidate should be available to travel abroad for scientific collaboration at various research infrastructures, for part of their time.
