Post-Doctoral Research Assistant - photo-fission experiments

Gamma Driven Experiments Department


    Scope of work:
    The post-doctoral assistant will participate in the preparation of the photo-fission experimental program at the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) at ELI-NP, using instruments which were defined in the of Technical Design Report (TDR): "PHOTOFISSION EXPERIMENTS AT ELI-NP", Rom. Rep. Phys. 68 (2016) S621, and built during the implementation of the ELI-NP project.
    Main Responsabilities:
    • Participating to the equipment tests of the photo-fission setups at ELI-NP
    • Preparing and participating in preparatory experiments for the ELI-NP research program
    • Main Tasks:
      • Commissioning the equipment for the implementation of the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) TDR within ELI-NP Gamma Driven Experiments Department (GDED)
      • Testing, tuning and debugging electronics, participating in the implementation and testing of the data acquisition system and the data-filtering algorithms needed for the experiments at ELI-NP
      • Providing support in the installation and commissioning of various systems and their further use
      • Actively participating in the different activities performed at ELI-NP
      • Modeling and/or simulation of experiments or detector response
      • Proposing, preparing and performing experiments related to the Variable Energy Gamma-ray System (VEGA) TDR research program
      • Analysis, presentation and publication of the results of the experiments and/or simulations
      Professional background:
      • PhD degree in Physics
      • Publication record in nuclear physics
      • Experience in experiments in nuclear physics
      • Expertise in analogue and digital electronics, analogue and digital signal processing
      • Windows and Linux proficiency
      • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
      • Goal-oriented attitude
      • Willingness to continuously improve and develop new skills
      • Proven teamwork experience, communication and efficient collaboration skills
      • Availability to travel and perform work stages abroad
      • Would be a plus, but at least one required:
      • Programming: LabVIEW, C/C++, GEANT4
      • Data analysis: ROOT
      Working arrangements/Conditions of employment:
      • Full time position, based in Bucharest - Magurele, Romania, for a period 1 (one) year with the possibility of extension. .
      • Included: private medical coverage, paid annual leave.

      • The candidate should be available to travel abroad for scientific collaboration at various research infrastructures, for part of their time.
