During April 21-24, 2026, the management of ELI-NP carried out a working visit to Japan with the aim of exploring opportunities for collaboration with Japanese partners from the academic and entrepreneurial sectors in the areas of fundamental research, innovation, and educational exchanges. In discussions with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education and Science (MEXT), the banking and university sectors in Tokyo, as well as the business community, the profile and activities of ELI-NP were presented, exemplarily being the project of the High-Power Optics Center (COMP; Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP)), developed within IFIN-HH as support for ELI-NP's experimental activities, in collaboration with Okamoto Optics and Osaka University, financed by the Government of Romania through the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration and the interdisciplinary project Dr. Laser - Medical Applications of High Power Lasers (Dr. LASER - Aplicatii Medicale ale laserilor de mare putere).
The meetings took place in the global context of strengthening the connection between research, development, and the emerging technologies market, and in preparation for the fourth edition of the Romania-Japan Innovation Forum, which will take place in Tokyo and Osaka in October of this year.
