Summer schools are addressed to PhD students and young researchers in the field of high-power laser and gamma beams nuclear physics, offering lectures and courses by world-class experts on new research perspectives and related technologies. A limited number of bursaries are available every year to cover full or partial accommodation costs.
2024 25.11-29.11
We are pleased to invite you to the XII Geant4 International School, with a focus on medical applications. The school will be held from 25 to 29 November 2024, at the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP)
facility in Magurele-Bucharest, Romania, in collaboration with the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN).
2024 23.09-27.09
The IRTG Lecture Week 2024 is a school organized as part of IRTG 2891 Nuclear Photonics, a collaboration between ELI-NP, National University for Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, and TU Darmstadt.
The aim of this school is to provide students and early career researchers with a solid foundation in laser-plasma interactions, from a series of lectures delivered by established researchers in the field, and from both a theoretical
and experimental point of view. Students that are part of IRTG 2891 Nuclear Photonics are also strongly encouraged to present and discuss their work.
2023 27.08-02.09
The production and use of energetic radioactive beams is a rapidly developing field in nuclear physics. Pioneering experiments are taking place; dedicated new facilities are being built and commissioned; theoretical predictions are refined.
The aim of the EUROSCHOOL ON EXOTIC BEAMS is to introduce PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers to this field and also to present recent experimental and theoretical advances.
2022 03-07.10
Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics demonstrated the 10 PW pulses production and propagation
to experimental areas and the first commissioning experiments at 100 TW and 1 PW during the Covid pandemics (2020-2022).
As now the facility enters full steam in the operation phase, the School aims at introducing PhD students
and young post-doctoral researchers to the field of high power lasers,
with emphasis on the use of the ultra-intense synchronous pulses.
The School will consist of a number of extended lecture courses given by experts in the field, starting from a basic level,
but also including more advanced seminars on specific in-house developments relevant for beamtime preparation.
The lectures will be held in the new Conference Center of the ELI-NP, in Magurele.
Students are invited to contribute to the school by short oral presentions on their own research.
2020 09-13.11
The field of photon–based nuclear science and applications is rapidly evolving being driven by the major worldwide
development of ultrahigh intensity lasers and brilliant quasi-monochromatic gamma beam systems.
The School aims at introducing PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers to the field of high power lasers
and nuclear photonics and also to present recent experimental and theoretical advances in the field.
The School will consist of a number of lecture courses given by experts in the field, starting from a basic level,
but also including more advanced seminars. The lectures will be held in the new Conference Center and online.
Students are invited to contribute to the school by short oral presentions on their own research.
2019 09-13.09
In 2019, the year when ELI-NP laser system has reached its design parameters of 10 PW,
the ELI-NP Summer School is dedicated to "Nuclear Physics with High Power Lasers".
The School aims at introducing PhD students and young researchers to the novel research
perspectives in the physics and applications of high-power lasers, covering the following topics:
High peak power ultrafast lasers,
High-power laser based particle acceleration and applications,
Generation of bright coherent and incoherent gamma and x-ray pulses using short pulse lasers,
Laser-driven nuclear physics,
Physics of dense plasmas and warm dense matter,
Astrophysics and cosmology with high-power lasers,
Novel bio-medical imaging and therapeutic applications,
Nuclear materials imaging, transmutation and management,
Strong-field QED with high-power lasers.
2017 27.08.-01.09
After a very successful 1st edition in Dolní Břežany (Czech Republic) in 2016, we are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the ELI Summer School (ELISS 2017), which will be hosted by ELI–Nuclear Physics and held in the period 27 August – 1 September 2017 at Cheile Gradistei, new Fundata Resort, situated at an altitude of 1300 m in the Carpathian Mountains in Romania.
2016 21-26.08
2016 26.06-09.07
2015 21-25.09
Laser-driven nuclear physics is a rapidly developing field. Pioneering experiments are taking place, dedicated facilities are being commissioned and new facilities are currently planned. The aim of ELI-NP SUMMER SCHOOL, co-organized in 2015 in collaboration with ELI-DC AISBL, is to introduce PhD students and young researchers to this field while also presenting most recent experimental and theoretical advances. Well-recognized experts in the field will give the lectures, starting from an introductory level but also tackling more advanced topics. Students and young researchers are invited to contribute to the school with posters.
