The event dedicated to launching the construction of the High-Power Optics Center (COMP) will take place on December 3, 2025, starting from 10:00, at the IFIN-HH/ELI-NP Conference Center in Magurele, 30 Reactorului Street. This center is an investment funded by the Romanian Government through the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration and implemented by the National Investment Company, with a total value of 191,657 thousand RON. The final beneficiary is "Horia Hulubei" National Institute for Research and Development in Physics and Nuclear Engineering.
COMP is aimed both at the construction of the building and the provision of state-of-the-art technological equipment necessary for large optics manufacturing and finishing. The equipment has been selected in collaboration with our Japanese partners, strengthening a strategic partnership between IFIN-HH, the University of Osaka - Institute for Laser Engineering and Okamoto Optics company from Japan, which emphasizes the international and innovative nature of the project.
The main goals of the center include:
- Developing one-of-a-kind technologies to manufacture large optical components in Romania.
- Providing the high-performance optics necessary for an efficient and continuous operation of the ELI-NP scientific facility.
- Manufacturing high-quality optical components, adaptable in terms of sizes and features, with potential for expansion to international markets.
COMP marks an essential collaboration between Romania and Japan, bringing together high-power optics expertise to build an advanced research and production facility in Magurele.
