The Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics facility (ELI-NP) recently welcomed Mr. Toader, the Prefect of Bucharest Municipality, onto its Magurele campus to discuss nuclear research at the worldwide recognized programme hosted by the "Horia Hulubei" National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering.

The Prefect and his team met with ELI-NP Acting Director dr. Calin A. UR and the Head of Laser System Research Department - Dr. Ioan Dancus. They discussed ELI-NP unique breadth of research and the relevance of the cooperation and investments, with a focus also on the common Romanian Japan project aimed to develop a new factory of special mirrors for scientific experiments. During the visit, there was also an opportunity for the Prefect team to hear from some of the ELI-NP young researchers about their work.

The Prefect visited also the ELI-NP departments that serve as vital hubs in the heart of the nuclear national and international research area. The programme launched back in 2012 has grown into a top-tier, research-driven facility. There are three core pillars of ELI-NP that supports the programme development:

  • an internal, expanded national and international team that identifies and handles the partnership with European and international community;
  • a research incubator designed to adapt to the dynamic reality of the advancement of new technologies;
  • a collaborative learning area that hosts events and delivers programs designed to connect research needs with highly trained professionals and technology.
"Innovation rarely follows a straight line, and we wanted that dynamic, adaptive space throughout the facility," dr. Ur declared.
Designed to break down traditional barriers between scientific disciplines, ELI-NP convene the collective expertise of more than 100 scientists under one roof to address challenges across areas such as physics, medical innovations and new technologies.
